How does studying abroad fit with this major?

As American Studies majors students focus on analyzing visual culture, media, social movements, and literature through the lens of American history and politics and their relationship with the world. Studying abroad gives American Studies students an opportunity to view American culture from the perspective of their host culture. This in turn gives students the ability to partake in cross cultural comparisons which may expand their critical thinking skills.

A study abroad experience provides American Studies students with a point of view they would be unable to gain without venturing outside the confines of our nation鈥檚 borders. Many foreign universities have American Studies departments that offer students the ability to fulfill their major or general education requirements, while enjoying all the excitement of living abroad.
