Please review the below information regarding CLEP testing inquiries.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)<\/strong><\/a> gives high school students the opportunity to receive college credit by earning qualifying scores on subject exams. More than 2,900 U.S. colleges and universities grant credit for CLEP. The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) test is available in a variety of subjects and languages including Spanish, History, Psychology, Science, Math, and Business. The CLEP test is a lower cost option for earning college credit and is offered every Wednesday at Ramapo. The CLEP examination fee is only $89 plus a $40 Proctor fee. That’s only $129 for a test that can yield up to 12 credits!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n <\/i><\/i><\/i><\/span> How many credits will I get for taking the CLEP test?<\/p> Most colleges publish the required scores for earning CLEP credit on their websites or in a course catalog. The required score for earning CLEP credit may vary from exam to exam. Contact your institution to find out the minimum qualifying score for each exam. Ramapo follows the recommended credit-granting score as set by The American Council on Education.<\/p>\n Each institution reserves the right to set its own credit-granting policy, which may differ from that of The American Council on Education\u2019s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT)<\/a>\u00a0that Ramapo follows. You can contact your college or university to find out the score it requires to grant credit, the number of credit hours granted, and the course(s) that can be bypassed with a satisfactory score.<\/p>\n The minimum\u00a0score requirements for obtaining credit at Ramapo can be found here:\u00a0https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/testing\/clep-subjects\/<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0The “Credit Granting Score” column on Ramapo’s above website is the score students need to pass and gain credit at Ramapo. The columns after that are the credits received\u00a0at Ramapo and what course it counts for here. This information that will vary depending on what college\/university the student ends up attending. For instance, at Ramapo a score over 50 on the American Literature exam means 8 credits and equates to LITR 220 and LITR 221. However, the credit-granting score and amount of credits may be 6 and the course(s) may be something else at another institution.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n <\/i><\/i><\/i><\/span> How is this different than AP tests?<\/p> CLEP and AP are both College Board examinations which test similar content but they function very differently. There are no “CLEP Courses” or College Board\u2013developed curriculum. CLEP is meant to assess learning regardless of where that learning occurred. CLEP testing does not require a course as a pre-requisite to testing.<\/p>\n Any student can take a CLEP test in any subject that they feel they have proficiency in.
