{"id":5403,"date":"2018-06-01T11:01:16","date_gmt":"2018-06-01T15:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/catalog-2024-2025\/?page_id=5403"},"modified":"2018-06-01T11:01:16","modified_gmt":"2018-06-01T15:01:16","slug":"academic-standing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/catalog-2024-2025\/academic-policies\/academic-standing\/","title":{"rendered":"Academic Standing"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Determination and Notification of Academic Standing<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>At the close of each Fall and Spring semester, once final grades have been posted, the Academic Dean and the Provost or their designee review records of all matriculated students enrolled at the College who have attempted twelve (12) or more credits. Credits and grades of all Ramapo course work contribute to the cumulative grade point average. Courses transferred from other colleges count only as credits earned.<\/p>\n<p>Matriculated students whose academic performance has fallen below a cumulative 2.0 GPA, which is required to graduate from 69色情视频, are advised of the deficiency in writing by the Provost or their designee via 69色情视频 email.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Academic Warning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Students who have a cumulative GPA below 2.0 for one semester are placed on Academic Warning.<\/p>\n<p>Students placed on Academic Warning cannot appeal their standing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students previously on Academic Warning who have achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 are placed in good standing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Academic Probation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Students who have a cumulative GPA below 2.0 for two consecutive semesters are placed on Academic Probation.<\/p>\n<p>Students placed on Academic Probation cannot appeal their standing.<\/p>\n<p>Toward the middle of the Fall and Spring semester, the Provost or their designee sends an email to students on Academic Probation, reminding students of their standing and the actions to be taken once grades have been posted at the end of the semester.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students previously on Academic Probation who have achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 are placed in good standing after probation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Students previously on Academic Probation who have made\u00a0<em>good academic progress<\/em>\u00a0by achieving a semester GPA of at least 2.5 but whose cumulative GPA is still below a 2.0 are placed on Continued Probation for one semester.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Students previously on Continued Probation who have achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 are placed in good standing after probation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Academic Suspension<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Students who have a cumulative GPA below 2.0 for three consecutive semesters are placed on Academic Suspension for one regular semester. Upon notification of suspension, the student is given an opportunity to submit a written appeal for immediate reinstatement to the Dean of the school in which they are majoring.<\/p>\n<p>Appeals must include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Letter from the student requesting reinstatement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If a student is reinstated based on an appeal, at the end of the probationary period:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students who achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 will be placed in good standing after probation.<\/li>\n<li>Students who do not achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 but have made\u00a0<em>good progress<\/em>\u00a0by achieving a semester GPA of 2.5 or better will be placed on continued probation one final semester at the end of which they must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better.<\/li>\n<li>Students who do not achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or a semester GPA of 2.5 or better will be academically dismissed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A student who does not appeal in writing to the Dean of the school in which they are majoring by the designated deadline [provided in the notification letter from the Provost or their designee] is viewed as accepting the one full Fall or Spring semester suspension.<\/p>\n<p>Decisions are final and\u00a0<u>do not have a further appeal.<\/u><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Academic Dismissal<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Upon notification of dismissal, the student is given an opportunity to submit a written appeal for immediate reinstatement to the Dean of the school in which they are majoring.<\/p>\n<p>The appeal process is the same as that for students who have been suspended.<\/p>\n<p>If a student is reinstated based on an appeal, at the end of the probationary period:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students who achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 will be placed in good standing after probation.<\/li>\n<li>Students who do not achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 but have made\u00a0<em>good progress<\/em>\u00a0by achieving a semester GPA of 2.5 or better will be placed on continued probation one final semester at the end of which he\/she must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better or will be academically dismissed.<\/li>\n<li>Students who do not achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and have not made\u00a0<em>good progress<\/em>\u00a0(as defined above) will be academically dismissed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Decisions are final and\u00a0<u>do not have a further appeal.<\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Reinstatement following Academic Suspension<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/provost\/policy\/academic-standing-new-2\/#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>A student who did not appeal their Fall or Spring semester Academic Suspension and wishes to return to the College must apply for reinstatement.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/provost\/policy\/academic-standing-new-2\/#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Reinstatement is neither automatic nor guaranteed after Academic Suspension.<\/p>\n<p>Students are required to apply to the Dean of the school in which they are majoring by at least 14 days prior to the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.<\/p>\n<p>The student begins the process for reinstatement by making an appointment with their Center for Student Success advisor, who does the following before advancing the student to the Dean:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reviews appeal letter<\/li>\n<li>Reviews courses and grades necessary for good standing to ensure feasibility of completing a Ramapo degree<\/li>\n<li>Review holds (e.g., Student Accounts) and has student remove all holds, except for Academic Standing hold, before advancing process<\/li>\n<li>Consults with Dean as necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the Dean of the school in which they are majoring rejects the student\u2019s reinstatement appeal, the student may petition for a review by the Provost or their designee.<\/p>\n<p>The petition is initiated by the submission of a written statement (submitted via email to the Office of the Provost by the student) that explains their position and includes any evidence that counters the decision of the Dean of the school in which they are majoring.<\/p>\n<p>If the Provost or their designee accepts the petition, the student will be reinstated on Academic Probation.<\/p>\n<p>The Provost or their designee and Dean of the school in which they are majoring may stipulate additional conditions in connection with reinstatement.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the semester for which students are reinstated:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students who achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 will be placed in good standing after probation.<\/li>\n<li>Students who do not achieve a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.0 but have made\u00a0<em>good progress<\/em>\u00a0by achieving a semester GPA of 2.5 or better and who meet any additional conditions set by the Dean or Provost\/designee (if applicable) will be allowed one final semester on continued probation before being academically dismissed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/provost\/policy\/academic-standing-new-2\/#_ftnref1\" name=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a>\u00a0Students who did not make an\u00a0<em>Immediate Reinstatement Appeal<\/em>\u00a0of an Academic Dismissal are ineligible to apply for reinstatement for a period of 24 months from the date of their Academic Dismissal.\u00a0 At that time, if reinstatement is granted, the student must also apply for readmission through the Office of Admissions:\u00a0 it is recommended that Fresh Start be considered by the applicant.
